The drama Babel weaves together four stories set in Morocco, Mexico and Japan. Director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu and scripter Guillermo Arriaga created a film that looks how people who speak different languages are disconnected from each other and how miscommunication can lead to tragedy. The duo previously made Amores Perros. Gonzalez Inarritu has never been nominated.
