Bad arguments, or just ones you don't want to accept?

Posted by: Scorpion on Dec 20, 17:04 in response to RogerMore's post I'm seriously tired of seeing the same bad arguments...

Short of confiscation, there's no way to get the 200 million private guns out of people’s hands. Let alone the 100 year supply of ammo. So, after this legislation, there's going to be just as many assault rifles in people’s hands as before it. This is the core of why legislation is going to be ineffective, we have a **** ton of guns already and they don't just expire like milk.

"Gun crime and gun death is down where gun control is in place" I accept that. However GB has higher crime victims per capita, higher assault victims per capita, higher rape victims per capita. Our total crimes are less than double GB's total crimes, yet we have about 5 times the population. As long as someone doesn't get shot, it's all good, right?

"I'm so sick of people not agreeing with me" is what you were really saying. Sorry, I see your argument, I just don't accept it as the only solution. I'd like to see an effort made to rid the root cause without effecting people's freedoms. If that's such a problem, then I'm sorry that you can't accept there may be another way.

What do you mean "all of the recent mass shootings have taken place specifically where firearms are banned". It's clearly legal to own RogerMore Dec 18, 08:52

I don't think it's very pragmatic to have loaded firearms in places where there are lots of children - like schools, or theatres. RogerMore Dec 18, 13:07

I'm a pragmatist. It seems abundantly clear laws do not keep guns away from criminals, and random mental illness will always be with us. forlorne Dec 18, 11:58

Hmm. Laws do not keep guns away from ciminals? While that is true, from my perspective, it seems to be the wrong way of looking at it. Paul2k Dec 18, 13:53

Yesterday, someone pulled out a gun at a theater and started shooting. They got one shot off, and someone who had a gun dropped them. forlorne Dec 18, 11:59
