Will Smith protrays Muhammed Ali in a biopic from director Michael Mann. Ali tracks the famed boxer's early days as a young Cassius Clay, following his rise as heavyweight champion to his controversial anti-draft stance during Vietnam. The film also dramatizes Ali's return to the ring, chronicling -- among other events -- his epic battle with Joe Frazier.

Budgetary concerns almost killed the Ali project. Columbia finally gave Smith and Mann the greenlight after costs were cut. Mario Van Peebles, Jeffrey Wright, Mykelti Williamson, and Jamie Foxx have joined the cast.
