Stephen Frears directs John Cusack in this romantic comedy about a thirtysomething record shop owner in Chicago who must face facts that he has never grown up when his long-time girlfriend walks out on him. As he examines his failed attempts at romance and happiness, the process finds him being dragged, kicking and screaming, into adulthood.
High Fidelity was adapted from the wildy popular book by Nick Horbny, who originally set the story in London. The cast also includes Joan Cusack, Natasha Gregson Wagner, Jack Black, Lisa Bonet, Joelle Carter, Sara Gilbert, Todd Louiso, Lily Taylor and Iben Hjelje. High Fidelity is Cusack's follw-up to Cradle Will Rock, a period drama directed by Tim Robbinns. This is the second time Cusack and Frears have collaborated together. In 1990, the two worked on The Grifters which earned Frears an Oscar nomination and helped launch Cusack into more mature film roles.
