First trailer for Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too?

In what has to be one of the strangest trailer ever, Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? [WDIG2] starts off like another gathering of married friends on vacation, until the music suddenly cranks up and the tone completely shifts into another genreI guess Tyler Perry [TPERR] got bored with making relationship dramedies and decided to branch out into spousal abuse thriller.

I had to revisit the trailer for Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? just to make sure I didn't...

Dan Aykroyd voices Yogi Bear, Justin Timberlake says Boo Boo.

Before Hollywood started making movies based on toys, studios were mining cartoons and comic strips to turn into CG animated characters to star opposite live action actors.  2002's Scooby Doo began the trend that have beget Looeny Tunes: Back in Action, Garfield and Alvin and the ChipmunksEarlier this week, Owen Wilson signed on to voice Marmaduke [MARMA], a Great Dane with disruptive antics that drives his family bonkers.  Now, Dan Aykroyd [DAYKR] is in talks to voice Yogi Bear [YOGIB], ...

Whisper Numbers: Moviegoers get an early Christmas Carol

The holiday movie season gets underway with a 3D animated retelling of the classic tale A Christmas Carol [CAROL].  Jim Carrey [JCARR] is motion-captured playing multiple roles in the Disney film directed by Robert Zemeckis [RZEME], whose previous effort, the PG-13 rated Beowulf, opened to $27.5 million in 2007.  With even more 3D and IMAX screens that command higher ticket prices, the PG-rated A Christmas Carol should entice families looking to get into the holiday spirit.  Swooping into...

Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie in the same movie?

The latest round of musical chairs casting for The Tourist [AZIMR] has settled on Johnny Depp [JDEPP] and Angelina Jolie [AJOLI]. The pairing would be the first time these two hugely popular A-list celebrities star in a film together.  Depp takes over for departing Sam Worthington [SWORT], who himself came on when Tom Cruise [TCRUI] exited.  Jolie previously replaced Charlize Theron [CTHER].  Alfonso Cuaron [ACUAR] is the latest director in talks for the remake of the 2005 French film...

Weekend Pass: Holidays Are Here

Halloween is freshly over and the hemisphere has even turned its clocks back one hour.  Supermarkets are advertising turkeys, cranberry sauce and stuffing for the upcoming day of thanks.  Hollywood on the other hand usually surges ahead on the holiday season.  This weekend will see the release of A Christmas Carol [CAROL], the latest motion-captured animated film from director Robert Zemeckis [RZEME].  The man behind The Polar Express and Beowulf, brings his unique brand of story-telling to...

New trailer for Sherlock Holmes

Warner Bros. has cut a third trailer for the period action adventure Sherlock Holmes [SHOLM] that replaces the slow-motion fisticuffs with more gunplay, swordplay and flirtatious wordplay.  Plenty of explosions and CG effects have also been added to show you where they spent their money.

Domestic and International trailer for Salt

Even though the trailer is completely in Russian without subtitles, one can still get a sense that Salt [ESALT] plays out like a female version of Jason Bourne on the run in New York City.  Angelina Jolie [AJOLI] plays a CIA agent accused of being a Russian sleeper spy so there are actual Russian dialogues in the trailer.

Updated with U.S. trailer: She doesn't really speak Russian afterall.

International trailer in Russia:

First trailer for Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

What looks like an international trailer for Disney Prince of Persia: Sands of Time [PRSIA] has leaked online with a low quality version. This is what happens when a studio decide to show the trailer first to select movie and gaming sites, rather than just release a high quality version online for everyone in the first place.  Having said that, the action adventure doesn't look bad, for a videogame adaptation.

Updated with higher quality domestic version:

First trailer for How to Train Your Dragon

DreamWorks Animation has released the first trailer for their next film How to Train Your Dragon [HTRYD].  Although it's marketed as "From the creators of Shrek and Kung Fu Panda", How to Train Your Dragon seems to focus on telling a good story rather than talking animals smirking through hip jokes typical of DreamWorks Animation.  Perhaps it's due to director Chris Sanders, whose influence you can see off the bat on the character design of the dragon, which resembles a certain blue alien...

Box Score: This Is It is Halloween weekend's top thriller.

Although the film did not live up to its pre-release hype, Michael Jackson's This Is It [JACKO] still topped Halloween weekend with $21.3 million.   The concert documentary has grossed $32.5 million since opening on Wednesday.  The behind the scenes performances thrilled Jackson fans, but it remains to be seen if This Is It will cross over to a bigger audience.  Concert films typically are front-loaded by die-hard fans.  Initially marketed as a two weeks only run, This Is It has been...
