New trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man

Sony has unleashed the full, theatrical trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 3D [SPID4].  The webslinging superhero franchise reboots with Andrew Garfield [AGARF] as Peter Parker, Emma Stone [ESTON] as Gwen Stacy. Denis Leary [DLEAR] as her father a police Captain and Rhys Ifans [RIFAN] as Dr. Connor aka The Lizard.   Billed as the untold story, the new origin film focuses on Peter's search for the truth regarding the death of his parents.  The Amazing Spider-Man 3D opens on July 3rd.

Box Score: Chronicle prevails over The Woman in Black.

Young moviegoers return to the theaters before the Super Bowl as Chronicle [CHRNC] earned an estimated $22.0 million to finish atop the weekend box office. The found footage film about kids abusing their superpowers attracted an audience that was 61% under the age of 25 and 55% male.

The Woman in Black [WMBLK] debuted a close second with $21.0 million.  The supernatural horror brought out a crowd that was 57% under the age of 25 and 59% female.

Whisper Numbers: Chronicle vs. The Woman in Black for first.

Three new films debut this Friday for moviegoers looking for a diversion during Super Bowl weekend. The top spot looks to be a closely fought contest between Chronicle [CHRNC] and The Woman in Black [WMBLK]. Fox’s Chronicle gives the superhero genre the found footage treatment. The PG-13 rated film focuses on three high school students who capture themselves using their newfound superpowers. First trailer for Red Lights

An international trailer has been uploaded for the psychological thriller Red Lights [REDLT] directed by Rodrigo Cortés (Buried).   Cillian Murphy [CMURP] and Sigourney Weaver [SWEAV] play two scientists who study metapsychic phenomena, but clash with a world famous psychic, played by Robert De Niro [RDENI].  Millennium Entertainment acquired Red Lights at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, where it drew a mixed reaction.

First trailer for 7500

CBS Films has launched the teaser trailer for the horror film 7500 [FLT75].  Ryan Kwanten, Leslie Bibb [LBIBB], Amy Smart [ASMAR], Scout Taylor-Compton [STAYL] and Jamie Chung [JCHUN] star in the supernatural thriller that's basically Ghosts on a Plane.  All that's missing is Samuel L. Jackson.  Directed by Takashi Shimizu of The Grudge, 7500 takes off on August 31st.

First trailer for The Cold Light of Day

Summit has unveiled the first trailer for the action adventure The Cold Light of Day [TCOLD].  The next Superman Henry Cavill [HCAVI] stars as a man must rescue his family after they are kidnapped while on vacation in Spain.  He finds out his father, played by Bruce Willis [BWILL], was an CIA agent hiding a government secret that also involves a woman, played by Sigourney Weaver [SWEAV].  The Cold Light of Day is scdeduled to opens wide on April 6th.

Box Score: The Grey captures first place.

Open Road Films scored its first number movie as its second release ever The Grey [TGREY] banked an estimated $20.0 million.  Liam Neeson [LNEES] once again demonstrated his draw as an action star.  Males made up 60% of the opening weekend audience.

Last weekend's champ Underworld: Awakening [UNDW4] came in second at $12.5 million, a 51% drop from its opening weekend.

Whisper Numbers: The Grey aims to be leader of the pack.

Three new films join another action-packed weekend at the box office. Liam Neeson [LNEES] figures to lead the way with the R-rated man vs. nature thriller The Grey [TGREY] about plane crash survivors stranded in the Alaskan wilderness. Buzz had been building since the first trailer showed Neeson fending off a pack of hungry wolves with fists of broken mini-bottles.
