Sony has officially postponed production on the fourth installment in the Spider-Man franchise [SPID4] according to Variety. Production had been scheduled to begin in February in order to meet its scheduled release date of May 6, 2011. Last month, IESB was the first to report the turmoil behind Spider-Man 4, which was promptly denied by Sony. Today, Nikki Finke corroborated the story that the original halt in pre-production was due to major problems with the script, and not a planned holiday hiatus. The script has gone through screenwriters Jamie Vanderbilt, David Lindsay-Abaire, Gary Ross, and most recently Alvin Sargent, who scripted Spider-Man 2 & Spider-Man 3. The story of Spider-Man 4 supposedly features John Malkovich [JMALK] as The Vulture, a villain the studio isn't particularly fond of. In fact, the Vulture was written out of Spider-man 3 in favor of Venom. We all know how that shoe-horned change one turned out.
