Three new movies underperformed as the sci-fi thriller Inception [INCPT] stayed at the top spot for the third weekend in a row. The heist movie set within dreams hauled in another $27.5 million to bring its cumulative tally to $193.3 million.
Dinner for Schmucks [SHMUC] rang up an estimated $23.3 million to debut in second place. Audience reaction to the comedy was mixed so box office legs could be short with competition from another guy-oriented comedy next weekend.
Holdover pic Salt [ESALT] declined 47% in its second weekend to $19.3 million. The Angelina Jolie [AJOLI] spy thriller has banked $70.8 million thus far. Despicable Me [DESME] grabbed another $15.5 million to push its total to $190.3 million.
Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore [CTND2] opened in fifth place with $12.5 million. Withh a glut of other 3D options, the sequel came out years too late to retain any goodwill from the first Cats & Dogs.
Charlie St. Cloud [DLCSC] gathered $12.1 million to debut in sixth place. The female fanbase of Zac Efron [ZEFRO] should keep the melodrama afloat during the rest of its run.
