Proving the detractors who had long doubted the film production wrong, The Green Hornet [GHRNT] topped the weekend box office with an estimated $40 million over the 4-day holiday weekend. Seth Rogen [SROGE] showed he could play a masked crime fighter and draw the moviegoing audience. Nearly 70% of its weekend haul came from 3D screens which includes IMAX.
The Dilemma [DILEM] finished far behind in second place at $21.1 million over the MLK Jr. holiday weekend. Comedy fans of Vince Vaughn [VVAUG] and Kevin James [KJAME] were apparently not eager for drama that dealt with a serious adult subject matter.
In third place, True Grit [TGRIT] grossed $13.1 million to bring its total to $128.3 million after four weekends.
The King's Speech [KNGSP] banked $11.2 million as the drama moved up from ninth to fourth overall.
