Although Jack Sparrow conquered the globe with a record $256 million debut overseas, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides [PRIT4] wave crested domestically with an estimated $90.1 million. While it still earned the biggest opening of the year, the fourth film fell short of the $114 million weekend from the third entry At World's End. The film's audience was nealry evenly split amongst the four quadrants at 54% over the age of 25, and 54% males. With stiff summer competition, Pirates of the Caribbean may have a short pegleg at the box office.
Staying in the second spot is Bridesmaids [BRDSM], which declined just 20% to $21.1 million. The R-rated comedy has grossed $58.9 million in 10 days.
Thor [THOR] finished in third place at $15.5 million. The mighty superhero has amassed $145.4 million.
Fast Five [FFUR5] grossed another $10.6 milion to bring its odometer after four weekends to $186.2 million.
Opening in just 6 theaters, Midnight in Paris [MIDNP] cracked the top 12 with $0.58 million.
