Shooting up the box office with the best Fourth of July Weekend opening ever, Transformers: Dark of the Moon [TFRM3] earned an estimated $116.4 million Friday thru Monday, wiping out the $115.8 million mark set by Spider-Man 2 in 2004. The third film in Paramount's giant robot franchise has piled up $181.1 million since its 3D debut Tuesday evening, which proved to be a masterstroke in getting the word of mouth rolling. 60% of its receipts came fom 3D screens.
Cars 2 [CARS] finished second with $32.1 million over the 4-day weekend. However, the Pxar sequel dropped 60$ when comparing the 3-day portion of the weekend against its opening weekend.
Bad Teacher [BDTCH] took third place at $17.6 million. The R-rated comedy declined 54% when comparing Fri-Sun from its debut weekend.
The combined star wattage of Tom Hanks [THANK] and Julia Roberts [JROBE] only propelled Larry Crowne [LCROW] to $15.7 million over the long weekend. The film skewed heavily older with 93% over the age of 25.
Monte Carlo [MONTC] debuted with $8.75 million over the holiday weekend. The Selena Gomez [SGOME] led comedy appealed to her demographic as 82% female of the audience was and 61% under the age of 25.
