Stylistically they're apples and oranges, but both are very good story tellers, and Whedon's probably the better writer...

Whedon's great with stories, and getting him locked in to a long term development deal where he gets to work on one of their big projects and they finance his ideas, much like Nolan with Batman/Prestige/Inception, could be mutually beneficial.

I doubt very much that Whedon's ever winning an Oscar, which Nolan probably will eventually, but I don't think Whedon cares and if they give some of his film projects a push, and he develops shows for them, we could see some good things come out of it.

So not really comparing their capabilities as directors, just their ability to get a story together that people want to go see.
