Why is this a big deal? Usually when a new President comes in, a lot of the projects in development from the old regime are dropped

Not all... but a good portion.  New Presidents like putting their own spin on the Studio and don't want something from the old regime making a lot of money when they had no hands in it. 

Hence why this is a "Big Deal".
