I must not be a traditional fan+++

granted, the earliest Trek I remember was The Search for Spock...I remember being in the theater with my parents and seeing it. I remember 4 better. TNG was the series I was really into.  In fact, I know I have not seen every episode of TOS.

That said, I loved the 2009 reboot...saw it several times in theater and I thoroughly enjoyed Into Darkness.  Do I wish they had done something original as opposed to Khan? Yes.  But regardless of that, I really liked the movie...consider it better than IRNM3 which is the last movie I saw prior.

I certainly think it is better than how the opening weekend BO is going.

returned to see the trek numbers... being a trekkie... b4bad May 18, 13:14

I think the franchise is valuable enough that there's always potential for another one. Like Bond, or Batman. RogerMore May 18, 13:19

It might be better than 50-50 TREK3 gets made, but another 4-year wait (or longer) might make it even less likely. It's a TV franchise. {nm} KalElFan May 19, 00:00

more like 99-1% Paramount obviously doesn't care about the quality so it won't take long to crank out another Orci/Kurtzman special charlie May 19, 18:04

It's the same mistake they made with the Stargate series. They pissed off the traditional fan, with Stargate Universe, in hopes of getting elchan May 18, 13:21

Considering JABRA is systematically re-writing the the past movies, it almost seems like an insult. At least be original. {nm} elchan May 18, 14:40

People call me nuts this week. Take a look powerball effect box office this weekend mike255 May 18, 15:28

Well lobogotti, its a few hours late, but here it is...{nm} whitewalls May 18, 15:37

I'm dead serious that I laughed out loud when I see your post. This is just so funny. Oh well, off to the Pacers game folks! {nm} lobogotti May 18, 15:51

when I see = when I saw {nm} lobogotti May 18, 15:51

I really try to stay neutral, but man am I having a laugh on this one. {nm} lobogotti May 18, 15:50

ISTM the Cost/Benefit of TREK3 is more dubious now. But TREK3 might make sense as a transition of the franchise back to TV. {nm} KalElFan May 18, 15:39

Recast Kirk et al for TV, new 5-year (or 7) mission begins. TREK3 would be optional, but again could perhaps set up that transition. {nm} KalElFan May 18, 15:47

US box office represents 25% of a movie's total take these days. with international, Into Darkness will be ridiculously successful {nm} charlie May 18, 17:03

A rule of thumb is a movie needs a domestic gross > production budget to make a profit. TREK2 will barely break even by that standard. {nm} KalElFan May 18, 23:51

International results on TREK2 remain to be seen. Overseas for the first was just under half domestic, i.e. weak. 1:1 is decent. {nm} KalElFan May 18, 23:56

Latino Review is teasing that they know JJ Abrams choice to direct it and that it is a fanboy fave with marvel experience {nm} notfabio May 18, 19:57

Ben Affleck! {nm} RogerMore May 18, 20:28

It's borderline insane to think they won't make more Trek movies robb1138 May 19, 08:34
