I'm rereading the books now and she really is insufferable in them. Fantastic actress though who I believe really improved on the character.
This is true with several of the actors in my opinion (as far as improving the character, not being insufferable). Ramsey Snow (Bolton), Tywin Lannister, Shea. The casting has been brilliant so far.
