... Euro-American / Native North American transactions was fresh and visceral. Tom Hardy and Domnhall Gleeson were fine. It's hard to say, but it was exhilarating in a kind of dull way.
If I were to change anything... well, the geography of the film is a little erratic. Some scenes take place some way from the mountains, and others are, well, they are plainly the plains. The sound world is also disappointing: I heard too many familiar sound cues in the forest. I think the encounter between Glass and the buffalo herd is a little... convenient. Who could resist such a scene in making a pre-railroad western? Okay, but still. I also thought the forests were, well, to even a little trained eye they were not very old looking. Last summer I did a series of east coast old growth hikes, and even the remnant forests in Ontario and New York can be spectacular, and these forests weren't.
So... it was very admirable, but it wasn't as interesting to me as "Birdman" or "Amores Perros."
