Sure, he would have loved to do it instead of Wolverine 2, but they both served the same purpose. I don't think he would do Wolverine 2, Machine Man, and then Robocop. I think he'd much rather do Wolverine and use that to get his Noah film off the ground. Or do something entirely unexpected.
Plus, why Aronofsky tends toward making films about obsession and the search for G-d, I don't think he is a good fit for Robocop. Despite the menus for Requiem for a Dream's DVD, I don't see the man as a satirist and Robocop is a satire first and foremost.
Of course, I hope they DO make it because the co-author of the original is a good friend and mentor of mine and his contract stipulated that he had right to first refusal on any remakes or adaptations. MGM didn't offer him the remake (not that he would have done it) before they gave it to David Self, so they ended up cutting him a great big check to NOT write the film. But I think that only happens if the film actually goes through.
