Have read the first few books and seen the film
I did initially find the casting dubious, but having seen the film, I think he did a good job - he had the swagger and the attitude. What fans of books have to remember is that films are an adaptation of the book and it is up the to writer/author/director/etc. how close to the source material they stay. For all his strange beliefs, Tom Cruise is a very good actor and if he's interested in a role why wouldn't you consider him?
