The drama Babel weaves together four stories set in Morocco, Mexico and Japan. Director Alejandro Gonzalez Ińárritu and scripter Guillermo Arriaga created a film that looks how people who speak different languages are disconnected from each other and how miscommunication can lead to tragedy. The duo previously made Amores Perros. This is Gonzalez Inarritu's first nomination.
