Description
Jim Broadbent, born in Lincolnshire, England in 1949, is one of the most versatile British actors working today. Broadbent received his theatrical training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, graduating from there in 1972. He went on to do stagework for the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Broadbent has also done a wide-ranging series of British TV work, such as Long Distance Information and The Last Company Car. In addition, Broadbent wrote and starred in the award-winning short film A Sense of History, directed by Mike Leigh. Broadbent's feature film credits include 1992's highly praised The Crying Game and 1994's Woody Allen comedy Bullets Over Broadway. It is, however, in Leigh's Topsy-Turvy that Broadbent has gained the most acclaim. Broadbent plays Gilbert of the composing team of Gilbert and Sullivan, a nuanced role for which he has been touted for Best Actor awards from several critical circles.
