Flags of Our Fathers chronicles the battle of Iwo Jima and the story of the six American soldier who raised the flag at the island's Mount Suribachi. Three of them were shipped back to the United States as reluctant heroes to lead a War Bond drive. William Broyles Jr. and Paul Haggis adapted the screenplay based on the best-selling book by James Bradley and Ron Powers. Broyles Jr. was previously nominated for Apollo 13. Haggis was Oscar nominated and won for Crash.
