Description

A librarian commits an act of civil disobedience when he allows a group of mentally ill, homeless people to seek shelter in the library during two of the coldest days in Los Angeles. The social drama The Public is set over the 48 hour period in which the librarian learns about the plight of the homeless. Emilio Estevez directs from his adaptation of an article by Chip Ward that covered the development of libraries doubling as shelter due to decreased funding for homeless aid programs.
