Playing & Trading Strategy

Looks good... some thoughts inside.

Looking at the 5 largest investments by value is an excellent idea - it lets traders see at a glance what do the fund managers see as their top 5 opportunities and how much do they have invested in them.  I would total the % figure, and also add the number of shares held and maybe the release date (if there is one) to this table.

The data you are looking at can change pretty regularly.  You are looking at a single point in time, while the most active fund managers are going to trade on news, flip stocks, play the openers etc.  How often are you planning to update?  Think about this from a fund manager perspective - no one wants a "sell" recommendation based on what they were holding a month ago.

I think you've made the right decision not to list every holding, but the information listed is still very lengthy.  Maybe only post holdings of 10,000 shares or more?  Or expand your top five investments to a top ten?  My thinking: if a fund manager holds 10,000 shares of a moviestock and it goes up by $10 in a day, the fund increases in value by 100K, the fund price increases by 10 cents and my port increases by H$1000. So even a fund holding 10000 shares of a high-performing moviestock is barely significant to anyone.  $100K is a good gain for the fund, but from the investor's perspective, it's half a Learn & Earn question.  Keep the focus on where the bulk of the H$ is invested.

As well as going through fund by fund, you might want to prepare some tables comparing how the funds are doing by your performance criteria.

For example, you are looking gains over the last 30 days.  It would be good to see a table with a list of all the funds, and their 30 day gains so it is easier to make comparisons. (islander used to do this on the boards, but I don't remamber seeing this in a while)

It would also be interesting to see the results for other criteria, like the % of value the fund has invested, and the % of value the fund has put into "in development" stocks (though this would be a lot more work - so keep it in the "interesting to see" file if you don't want to do it.)

A Movie Fund Blog - what an excellent idea - Kudos for Thinking outside the Box. {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2013 Mar 18, 00:22

DISNX should expand its Mandate to include StarBonds & Derivatives. Other Funds are investing in those. RotoHockeyYTD2013 Mar 18, 00:27

Why are Movie Funds investing in themselves when they have no Mandate to do so? {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2013 Mar 18, 00:29

funds have been allowed to hold (1) share of their own fund. anymore than that is wrong and should be pointed out politely islander Mar 18, 06:59

Then this should be identified in their Mandate. It's a simple inclusion. {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2013 Mar 18, 14:05

Why is PARAX investing in other Movie Funds when it has no Mandate to do so? {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2013 Mar 18, 00:30

If Studio Funds want on invest in StarBonds & Derivatives, their Mandate should say so. {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2013 Mar 18, 00:32

starbonds are not allowed to be held by studio funds. this should be pointed out to the admin. some derivs are allowed islander Mar 18, 07:06

It has nothing to do with 'uncertainty'. The Rules should be clear and should be followed. RotoHockeyYTD2013 Mar 18, 14:04

none of the studio funds are holding starbonds, & none hold more than 1 share of a studio fund, so no problems w/ the rules {nm} lapuckfan Mar 18, 14:20

Not Correct - PARAX has a StarBond Investment. RotoHockeyYTD2013 Mar 18, 15:21

> islander Mar 18, 16:00

The PARAX fund manager probably just made a trade in their fund when they thought they were in their port. {nm} RogerMore Mar 18, 16:04

I was thinking the exact same thing. It has happened to me at least twice, so it's not unlikely... slappydavid Mar 18, 16:14

It was a Statement of Fact. {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2013 Mar 18, 17:07

I didn't mean you in this case, I was just suggesting a possible general way of doing it... {nm} slappydavid Mar 18, 20:01

All Righty. Thanks. {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2013 Mar 18, 23:14

And... Issue II, FOXX is up. whitewalls Mar 18, 01:27

Thanks for your analysis of the FOXX fund CButera Mar 26, 16:55

There will be a follow-up with the new format coming soom, most likely in mid-April after I am back from Vacation. {nm} whitewalls Mar 26, 17:30

re: the monthly fund report, yeah it got to be more work than i was interested in. would be nice if someone wanted to do it islander Mar 18, 08:51

Thanks for the input Roger... whitewalls Mar 18, 12:49
