I agree it does happen quite a bit, though savvy traders can use that to their advantage. However, I was one who thought the same about TDK.

That one stung for months.

Traders have to invest there money somewhere. Fanboy-friendly movies tend to be more interesting to hold than Tyler Perry's next movies.

Lobogotti's got a pretty compelling argument for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo being driven up here:

Once again, *once* again, we saw how the HSX demographic, dominated by men, "geeks" (in the wider sense) and fan-boys, had to be assaulted Facto Jun 11, 10:39

perhaps the movie directed by that guy from swingers. {nm} lhayes37 Jun 11, 10:55

Yo! Facto Jun 11, 11:25

I agree it does happen quite a bit, though savvy traders can use that to their advantage. However, I was one who thought the same about TDK. JSpicoli13 Jun 11, 10:57

Yeah, that one. Lobo makes some excellent points, there, I believe. {nm} Facto Jun 11, 11:32

actually, in this particular case, HSX is to blame. they IPO'ed SUPR8 @ 80 if I am not mistaken. traders just bid it up since IPO. Oleg Max Jun 11, 11:04

But the hsx system works in the end, doesn't it.... the Super8-expectation level was brought down to a point that I ( f.i. ) bought stock JMT-NL Jun 11, 11:08

I agree. I have every movie shorted but 3 until September. Most are overpriced IMHO. {nm} PVL Admin Jun 11, 11:10

Wide release movies, that is. {nm} PVL Admin Jun 11, 11:12

thats because b.o. had been sucky lately... Oleg Max Jun 11, 11:13

We've had three movies make $200 million in the last six weeks. {nm} secretstalker Jun 11, 11:14

...out of 54 this year. It's been a slow start. {nm} PVL Admin Jun 11, 11:16

Sure, it started out slow but that doesn't been it's been sucky lately... it has picked up in the summer, as it should. {nm} secretstalker Jun 11, 11:31

its not 50-50 over/under as it had been in the past... thats for sure... {nm} Oleg Max Jun 11, 11:38

what's more surprising to me is the BB's fresh ratings.... lobogotti Jun 11, 12:48

I think this summer will be way better than last, but there are still many overpriced movie stocks on HSX for that timeframe. {nm} PVL Admin Jun 11, 13:08

this is the worst summer movie grouping of all-time (or at least that i can remember) absolutely horrid {nm} lhayes37 Jun 11, 13:12

seems to me it doesn't matter what HSX IPOs something at...traders still set the market and this one they set too high (at first) {nm} tealfan Jun 11, 11:11

I've lost so much on SUPR8 that, even though I'll get some back tomorrow, I'll still be over $1.5M in the red. {nm} BuenaOnda Jun 11, 11:24

I had high hopes for this when it came out, but shorted it at 164 when it was obviously not getting the buzz that would require. {nm} not2fast Jun 11, 12:04

According to my charts, "hype and buzz" are even less accurate than RS. ;) {nm} PVL Admin Jun 11, 13:10

this is a fascinating subject. I wish I had kept a running tally of films over the years that were crazy high then ended up tanking hard... lobogotti Jun 11, 12:36

SCRM4 was another great example. {nm} lobogotti Jun 11, 12:50

True - and recent, too {nm} Facto Jun 11, 13:03

Shorting has been very kind to me. I love to root for the films to tank. what does that say about me? {nm} lhayes37 Jun 11, 13:13

i get more fired up by a speedracer or Narnia 2 than I do by a TDK or Inception {nm} lhayes37 Jun 11, 13:15

LOL...you have no faith in the modern box office film. certainly there are some long range gems you think will do well. {nm} lobogotti Jun 11, 13:16

He's old and cynical.I heard him yesterday, talking about the virtues of black and white analog TV and badmouthing the remote control. {nm} PVL Admin Jun 11, 13:22

just bought a fresh members only jacket yo! {nm} lhayes37 Jun 11, 13:43

faded green and all {nm} lobogotti Jun 11, 13:47

lol...;) {nm} lobogotti Jun 11, 13:46

Maybe Transformers. Most knowledgeable traders know that HPot's have no legs. While would this one be different? {nm} lhayes37 Jun 11, 13:42

yeah I can agree on HPOT8. the only thing is that is the last film in the series so don't look for it to act exactly as the previous films. lobogotti Jun 11, 13:53

the times they are a-changinnn {nm} tealfan Jun 11, 13:31

that you have a very small playbook? {nm} RazorHawk Jun 11, 15:22

Herman Boone style. {nm} lobogotti Jun 11, 15:59
