FWIW, statistically, women read a lot more fiction than men, and probably make up a large proportion of the book's audience, so I would expect a lot of women to be seeing this movie; Mara's attractiveness is probably not going to affect their interest either way ... And surely men's interest in a David Fincher thriller with Daniel Craig in it isn't contingent on his co-star, is it? I guess the role will be a huge challenge for Mara and Fincher to sell - the character is not all that likeable in the book, I'm really interested to see how she translates in this version. I would have thought the film's potential appeal strongly to both men and women is one of its assets.
It will be another of those interesting book to film conversion things too - I would say it was an absolute done deal in terms of converting the book's massive audience, except for the fact that the Swedish films were already reasonably successful (although obviously on a very different scale). Surely a huge proportion of those readers will already have had their appetite for seeing what it looks like onscreen satisfied ... i mean, this is a book that sold like Harry Potter.
Moneyball was a very good film. B to B+ in quality. It plays a little long, but I wouldn't quite know what to cut. Sep 20, 19:27
