special problems for a film. As a novel it was great ... because you're inside his head, and seeing the world through his very, very sharp eyes. As a TV miniseries in the 1970s, it was great, because they gave the audience lots and lots of time to watch him.

Dealing with George Smiley, excellent actual spy, in two hours of a visual medium is a serious challenge. I give them points for effort.

But last night I heard an interview with Oldman, and (great as his performance was), the way he talked about the character was much more interesting than the character on screen. Oldman understands things about Smiley that the movie never got across.

I went to see Tinker, Tailor... yesterday man the last 20 minutes are great but the rest....what a bore!!!!!!!! {nm} gogreenytd Jan 17, 09:19

I 100% agree. This was my kind of movie too and I just couldn't get into it. bloopster Jan 17, 09:53

I think it was the Script, it was just too complicated to follow, and the settings dint help either {nm} gogreenytd Jan 17, 10:12

I'm with you!..seen it 3 times and going back for more....its a brilliant piece of movie-making. {nm} GLAMMGUY Jan 17, 10:15

indeed. I will say though that the film is not meant for wide release. could easily see it disappointing the masses. {nm} lobogotti Jan 17, 11:26

Too true, but none the less, an homage to the art of film making. {nm} GLAMMGUY Jan 17, 13:42

Mostly only people weened on US action movie explication could say this masterpiece was boring, I guess.. {nm} Facto Jan 17, 13:43

I found The Lives of Others (spy/mole story set in Cold War Europe) to be 10x more interesting and captivating. bloopster Jan 17, 15:01

It's the best boring film I've seen since that goat-herder film. {nm} RufusS Jan 17, 09:59

But the 7:00+ long-take of the Easter procession from a high angle at the village intersection: a miraculous shot. (Link.) second gary Jan 17, 10:26
