Over the past decade, Christmastime has seen many Broadway musical films:
Chicago -- $170 million
Phantom of the Opera -- $51 million
The Producers -- $19 million
Dreamgirls -- $103 million
Sweeney Todd -- $52 million
Nine -- $19 million
Les Miserables -- $148 million
However, Disney traditionally chooses Thanksgiving weekend to release its big holiday films. In the past decade-plus, they have released a new family film in December only four times:
Princess and the Frog -- $104M
Bedtime Stories -- $110M
National Treasure 2 -- $219M
Chronicles of Narnia - -$291M
How will Into the Woods compare? Even if Rob Marshall messes the whole thing up, can Disney's marketing muscle serve up another Enchanted ($127 million), or will be end up more like their Evita ($50 million)?
