Jean Pierre Melville = Genius. Just watched Le Doulos yet again. It gets me every time. The Samourai. Bob the Gambler. On and on it goes.
The guy just soaked up all the Film Noir you ever loved and he made movies that are totally the cats pajamas.
I have a special place for Second Breath. And the Red Circle. And the resistance films are shockingly good.
But it's Le Doulos, that's the ultimate. Samourai is right there, but Le Doulos, that's my favorite foreign Noir, along with Third Man. Those are two genuine masterpieces right there.
