you can't get 50% of the academy to even vote on those categories {nm}

We live Twilight Zone.. Oscar ratins now so low, they don't beat re-runs of "NCIS" on TV.. or other shows. What a time to be alive. {nm} VictorY Apr 26, 15:11

They are down about what everyone else is, pre-COVID, probably still will be lower than 2020's next year, but should mostly recover. {nm} notfabio Apr 26, 15:21

I honestly don't think so. They keep losing viewers every year. I've been hearing "they will rebound" for years now... {nm} VictorY Apr 26, 15:42

INHTS alone will help 2022 pull in better ratings than 2021. {nm} Antibody Apr 26, 15:47

I think if they would keep politics and "statements" out of the Oscars, they would fair better with viewers. Stick to movies. {nm} Flash Apr 26, 15:51

Variety reports Oscars ratings down 58% vs. 2020... Flash Apr 26, 15:56

That won't be much comfort. I'm going to be blunt here.. Oscars coming in under 15 is no better than a pointless NFL game. 30+ is basement. {nm} VictorY Apr 26, 15:52

ABC will never cancel the Oscars. it's only a question of how much they (or someone else) will pay the Academy for the rights cake boss! Apr 26, 17:42

Source? Oscars was tops last night. Antibody Apr 26, 15:25

I was thinking more the regualr average of NCIS, which was 11.68 million for Season 17. I'm literally in shock Oscars came in below that. {nm} VictorY Apr 26, 15:34

Regular is not reruns. {nm} Antibody Apr 26, 15:35

Depends on the week, true. But the fact we're even having this comparison now.. is just crazy!!!! {nm} VictorY Apr 26, 15:41

Statistics and evidence do not appear to be your strong suit (nm) SenJohnBlutarsky Apr 26, 16:24

+1 {nm} Movie Cub Apr 26, 16:37

And excuse making is yours'... Pass {nm} VictorY Apr 26, 17:19

They need to get rid of categories no one cares about - do the 5 big ones, plus song, score, cinematography and screenplays - 2 hours {nm} journey Apr 26, 17:51

I love docs & foreigns, but let's face it that's 1 pct of audience, and way less for anyone caring about the lesser categories {nm} journey Apr 26, 17:53

you can't get 50% of the academy to even vote on those categories Moviesnob Apr 26, 17:56

cutting them from the telecast isn't going to magically bring back 50m viewers. GG's are zippy and only do major categories. their ratings cake boss! Apr 26, 18:47

Yep. you mentioned this before, they'll move to a streamer when the contract is up. They'll never go away, but their ability to appeal to a Moviesnob Apr 26, 22:57
