Juries, especially back then, hated to convict on date rape...but non-date rape (which Celestin would be) was much easier...
The prosecutors made a mistake not also charging Parker as an accessory to the other rape...so the jury could not convict him for the aide he provided to make that happen even if they wanted to...
The victim also made convicton very hard by not ever getting a rape kit done (she did not visit a doc for 17 days) - the fact they ever went forward and then got any conviction orginally without it is a minor miracle...
