If its COLLEGE football the players should not be paid.  They are supposed to be attending COLLEGE, getting an education.  Sports are an EXTRA-curricular activity.  Colleges/Universities and society need to make up their mind, are these institutions going to be educational or are they going to be Professional Sports Training/Minor Leagues.  Trying to be both is destroying them and hurting both the students and the athletes as well as society at large.

If you are following the OK-State football story; my family name is about to be pulled through the mud. I just heard and   damenchipguy on Sep 12, 20:12

We can never blame the players. The NCAA has these crazy rules. The players are unpaid. Why not take what you can?   mrbinns on Sep 13, 06:31

The players are paid with a full scholarship with room and board. {nm}   Antibody on Sep 13, 10:23

And compared to what they bring in to their respective universities, they are working cheap.   Bubba_Fett on Sep 13, 10:43

At $50,000 a year for non-resident, that's $200,000 value for 4 years. A great deal for the 99% that won't play pro-ball. {nm}   Antibody on Sep 13, 11:30

How much is that worth for someone who is functionally illiterarte but can play sports real well, does not go to classes, does not    mrbinns on Sep 13, 12:08

But that is their own fault for not taking advantage of the opportunities GIVEN to them. {nm}   BSmurf on Sep 13, 12:30

Hard to take advantage of a college education when you can't read above a sixth grade level. {nm}   DTravel on Sep 13, 13:06

versus the tens of millions that a top Div I school earns off their football program every year? peanuts {nm}   charlie on Sep 14, 10:43

yes, I read the whole SI article... wow Damen. and no worries here, has nothing to do with you.   lobogotti on Sep 13, 08:43

Allowing Olympic athletes to pocket some cash hasn't destroyed the integrity of the competition.   Bubba_Fett on Sep 13, 10:27

I know that college ball effectively is a NFL minor league - that's what I think the problem is.   DTravel on Sep 13, 11:09

I don't believe Olympic athletes that are still in school/scholarship can take cash either. {nm}   Antibody on Sep 13, 11:34

Give the players a stipend and a lot of this crap would go away.    Bubba_Fett on Sep 13, 10:12

With the Cowboys this was bound to happen Sooner or later. {nm}   RotoHockeyYTD2013 on Sep 13, 13:46

We will handle the Sooners, later! {nm}   damenchipguy on Sep 13, 15:08
