I know that college ball effectively is a NFL minor league - that's what I think the problem is.
The college football players need to be treated as either A) minor league players with the attendant pay, etc.; or B) college students. Not this confusing and conflicting mix of the two.
And Olympic athletes are not the same thing as college football players.
