Description
The South African film Tsotsi looks at a week in the life of a violent young gangster in Johannesburg. Tsotsi, which means thug or gangster, tells the story of a young criminal who finds a baby in his backseat and forces a young mother at gunpoint to take care of the child. Writer-director Gavin Hood adapted the crime drama from Athol Fugard’s novel. The film took home the People’s Choice Award at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival and is South Africa’s official Oscar submission.
