When openers don't do well at the box office, you can still short them to make money, as was mentioned. Even during the lull of the fall, there will be movies that adust UP (and many by quite a bit) from when they halted.
Make your best guess, and play them either long or short, and you can still add lots of value to your port until some of the bigger movies come out for the holiday season...
