First trailer for Samson

Pure Flix has unleashed the teaser trailer for the Biblical epic Samson [SAMSN].  Taylor James stars in the title role while Caitlin Leahy plays Delilah. Billy Zane, Rutger Hauer and Jackson Rathbone round out the cast.  Samson opens in theaters on February 16th.

Whisper Numbers: Boo 2! to avert disaster films

A year ago, Lionsgate got back in business with filmmaker Tyler Perry [TPERR] as Boo! A Madea Halloween opened to a robust $28.5 million. They quickly produced a sequel, Boo 2! A Madea Halloween [BOAM2], pitting the loudmouth grandma against more monsters. With the exception of 2013’s A Madea Christmas, the Madea films typically open around $25 million. The Perry fanbase has been fairly consistent, so expect Boo 2! A Madea Halloween to grab around $24 million from 2388 theaters

Lionsgate has unveiled the trailer for the thriller Acrimony [SLMLF] written and directed by Tyler Perry [TPERR].   Taraji P. Warner Bros. has released the trailer for 12 Strong: The Declassified True Story Of The Horse Soldiers [HORSO] based on the Doug Stanton non-fiction book. Chris Hemsworth [CHEMS] stars as a Green Beret Captain who leads the first Special Forces team of 12 soldiers deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11. Disney and Marvel have unsheathed the official trailer for the stand-alone superhero actioner Black Panther [BPNTH] starring Chadwick Boseman [CBOSE]. Michael B. Box Score: Happy Death Day blows out competition

Blumhouse has another number one hit at the weekend box office as Happy Death Day [HTDTH] opened with an estimated $26.5 million. The PG-13 rated horror attracted an audience that was  54% female and 65% under the age of 25.

Last weekend's champ Blade Runner 2049 [BLAD2] slipped to second with $15.1 million, dropping 54% from its debut.  The sci-fi sequel has banked $60.6 million.

The Foreigner [FRGNR] earned $12.8 million to open in third palce.  The actioner skewed 59% male.

Universal takes advantage of Friday the 13th this weekend by releasing the horror film Happy Death Day [HTDTH] produced by Blumhouse. Jessica Rothe [JROTH] stars as a sorority girl who relives her murder on her birthday over and over again.
