Some thoughts about today’s IPO’s from the Tiffany Network, CBS
First a look at the past.Â

Since TV Stocks came into being, there have been 23 CBS TV Stocks. 11 of them delisted at 18 or better, 3 more between 15 and 17, and 4 at 13, of which one was a reality show only slated for 13 episodes (KIDNAT), and 2 were midseason shows that ran their 13 weeks and did not get renewed (CANETV and CMNDSB.) Only 5 delisted at less than 13, one of which was CHAOS last year which premiered on April Fools Day. A great track record for freshmen shows on CBS. They take their scripted shows seriously. Especially if it gets to start with a Dead Body.

Now for the new year.

UNFORG should have starred Marilu Henner, who has the gift in real life. 60 Minutes did a piece on her and similar people and ta-da, CBS developed a show. As the CSI’s have become long in the tooth, a new procedural on the DB network seems to be a shoe-in.   Sort of Medium meets NYPD ?  Up against BOP:ROF on ABC but if good, it is a chance to use the old DVR. Should get good sampling.

What do you do if you mix Jesus (JCAVI) with Daniel from Lost? Throw in TPHEN (not in movies?)  You get PRSINT. Here is another crime show from the DB network, but their twist is to solve the crime before it happens. Oh wait, that was MREPO. Is nothing sacred? This one is in the old CSI timeslot, which was becoming harder to DVR due to Bones and Grey’s Anatomy. Why do I think this needs a time slot change to survive? Hiatus coming?

What would CBS Friday be without a show about people talking to dead people? GIFTM is the one. It is perfect counter programming. Chuck, Kitchen Nightmares, and Extreme Makeover are not looking for the same demographic. Has a chance to sample. Or it could be a good time to empty out some of the shows on the DVR. Why do I think 13 and done? But Ghost Whisperers lasted how many years?

But let’s lighten up. HTBAGM and 2BROKE, being sitcom’s have to do 1 thing. BE FUNNY. CBS has had good success launching comedies. HTBAGM is in the hammock between Big Bang and PRSINT with PARKRC the only comedy competing. Good chance for sampling. 2BROKE has an even better timeslot between How I Met Your Mother and 2.5 Men. When was the last time CBS had a loser on Monday night? These could easily go the route of MIKMOL and make it the whole way. Just BE FUNNY !
