Just like so many remakes, don't screw with the original. It had a whole new book, the songs were in different order, sung by different characters.
In the original show/movie, the female lead (Barbara Harris, BSTRE) has ESP and makes flowers grow. Gone. Instead we have a "homosexual" florist. oyWhile both have smoking problems that involve finace/boy friend that sends them to the psychiatrist (John Collum/Yves Montand now HCONN) it varies a lot from there.
The prior life is changed to the '40s and the prior life person is still Melinda. The love of Dr. Bruckner for Melinda is kept, but he is not driven to the Florist as he was for Daisy in the original
I loved hearing HCONN sing, and they jazzed up the arrangements of some songs for him. But even the title song, saved for last, meant nothing to the story.
It is still in previews, so changes can be made, but Please, do not change the beer. The original story is still more meaningful
PREDICtion.....not a long run, Cannot survive without HCONN, but it will not even get to that. The St. James theater will be available for a new production soon.
