term comes from women, it seems to me. I think it's understandable. (It's also fully possible that Joss Whedon is opposed to the term or the concept.)

"Strong female" hints at this not being the norm, thus suggesting that most women are weak. For those truly interested in such a rhetorical, sociological or linguistic subject, here's one example of a relevant read:
