The clown prince of crime prevailed over the mistress of evil as Joker [JOKER] reclaimed the box office crown with an estimated $18.9 million. The DC Comic adaptation has banked $277.6 million.
Last weekend's champ Maleficent: Mistress of Evil [MALF2] came in a close second with $18.5 million. The sequel dropped 50% from its debut to bring its total to $65.4 million.
The Addams Family [ADDAM] finished third at $13.7 million, pushing its total to $72.8 million.
Zombieland: Double Tap [ZMBL2] tumbled 57% in its second weekend to $11.6 million and fourth place. The sequel has scored $47.0 million.
Countdown [CTDWN] debuted at the fifth spot with $9.0 million. The horror film attracted an audience that was 51% female and 76% under age 35.
Black and Blue [BLABL] took in $8.3 million to open in sixth place. The crime thriller drew 52% female and 75% over 25 years old.
Expanding to 578 theaters in its second weekend, The Lighthouse [LITHS] moved up to eighth overall with $3.1 million.
The Current War: Director's Cut [CURNT] charged up $2.7 million to debut at the ninth spot. The drama skewed 55% males and 65% over 3.
