Short and Cover are explained in the help section/glossary, so I'd say read there first. As for strategy, there tends to be more movement on movies closer to release. My strategy early on was to play with IPOs, it doesn't take too long to figure out the pattern with those. Everyone has their own strategy, just watch what people are talking about on the boards, and you can get a sense of what you want to do.
