predict how a movie will perform down the road. If that were possible, stocks would only go up or down after IPO. But traders do know that high(er) profile IPOs tend to be highly volitile in the first couple of days (and cause crazy things to happen to other stocks as well). So, if you know how to spin it, traders can make lots of money of of the short term nature of IPOs.

The thing is, even if an IPO has a great probability of doing well (as the initial poster obviously does because of his comparison with Coraline (I'm guessing)), that doesn't mean the movie actually WILL do well. Comparisons of genres are just a tool to predict how a movie will do, but until there are other facts to base an opinion off of (which generally pop up about a month out of release), there are no definitive ways to say how successful a movie will be at box office.

As per Rocket's aka PVL Admin's request, I need to tell you that these kinds of posts are generally not allowed on these boards PRodQuanta Sep 13, 18:57

To answer your question, however, I think its because there doesn't seem to be a lot of info to base how well this movie will do. PRodQuanta Sep 13, 19:00

What does CBALN have to do with a stop motion animated movie like Coraline? {nm} Antibody Sep 13, 21:13

(Pretty straightforward...) logic inside PRodQuanta Sep 13, 21:20

Sorry that's completely illogical. You're basically saying nothing is ever related and we can never compare two movies. {nm} Antibody Sep 13, 21:26

How obtuse... {nm} PRodQuanta Sep 13, 21:57

Also, the 2 day trading trend points to short term profit on IPO, while you're pointing out the long term rise and crash of CBALN. {nm} Antibody Sep 13, 21:35

The operative word in the last sentence being "facts", as in not an opinion. Something like tracking number, which aren't out at the IPO {nm} PRodQuanta Sep 13, 22:04

Usually... {nm} PRodQuanta Sep 13, 22:07

Profit taking after it rose more than 10%. The movie is more than 2 years away. {nm} Antibody Sep 13, 21:12

Just to let you know, using the brackets tags a stock, and is only to be used for posting news about that stock. accountant_4_Jesus Sep 14, 04:29

Unfortunately YUSEF, the rules are not found on the site, but have been posted (by Paul2k I believe) on the boards before. PRodQuanta Sep 14, 08:00

He posted them on the Life board. {nm} accountant_4_Jesus Sep 14, 13:15

That's right. Thanks accountant. {nm} PRodQuanta Sep 14, 14:12
