Blomkamp said during the Q&A after the film I saw that he wanted to make a South African film that South Africans could appreciate and would agree served as an allegory for their country. By most accounts, it does exactly that and remains incredibly entertaining for everyone else.
Neil mentioned that there are parts of 'Joberg' that are called No-Go Zones because Nigerian smugglers/gangs control them. He also mentioned that they're known to practice voodoo and other tribal religions. If portraying reality that isn't pretty is wrong or can be construed as racist, what does that make The Wire?
