When I was in LA, borrowing a house in Beverly Hills, Oakhurst Blvd right by Wilshire, we went to Venice Beach and Santa Monica, Westwood, Century City etc every day in daytime, Sunset Strip by night time. One night we were (buddy and I that borrowed this hacienda) in Whisky a-Go-go and there was this Skid Row tribute band playing there. By some female groupie we ended up getting invited to the after party, which was in West Hollywood, right on the border but a block inside Los Angeles. Drove there in the roadie van - which had to detour into alleys on the way, as the driver freaked out upon seeing a police car along the way, and hit some back alleys - van was carrying weed, I believe, besides all the band equipment.
Came to this basement at that adress and they rigged everything and kept playing. There was a huge keg of beer and we could serve ourselves endlessly. Some guy with "MTV staff" t-shirt walked around serving everyone (but us - we rejected) mary jane by gilded pipe. Hours later it was 5.30 or close to 6 in the morning and the LAPD came and broke up the enite party after neighbours' complaints. Took a taxi cab with a driver so legendary, he could be in a movie. He took us to Larry Parker's 24 hour diner, where there was a party still going on. This was mere blocks - walking distance - from "our" house, and one or two blocks east of Rodeo Drive.
Another night, we danced with the Barbie Twins at an after party in the second floor of the Roxy.
Last night we were there, day 15, River Phoenix, Joaquin's brother, croaked on the sidewalk outside the Viper Room. We were planning on going there, but got stuck further east near Body Shop (mentioned in Motley Crue song "Girls Girls Girls"), the Roxbury (theme for a movie or two) - where there was a huge Halloween party - and the Dragonfly + the Sunday Shake...
