In the good old days, Joe McCarthy, John McGraw, even Connie Mack (who owned the ball club so he could not get fired) did the most important part of the job, making out the line-up card. The rest was up to the team on the field.

I would personally put Larussa ahead of Bobby. Bobby has been great, but has had more of a talent pool to manage, IMO. {nm} Oct 31, 18:13
