I went collecting for the Salvation Army with their Red Shield Appeal. I was given a certain area of the town to canvas. When I went to a particular house, I knocked on the door and a teenage boy answered the door. He said that he didn't have any money at the time, and so I was about to turn around and leave and I felt a sharp pain in my leg. I looked down and saw a bite mark, then turned around to see a Jack Russell terrier running away. All this happened just as the owners were getting out of the car that had just driven into the driveway. The owners saw it and did absolutely nothing about it. I was so angry with them for not putting the dog in the fenced backyard instead of out in the open front yard, and also for doing nothing about it when I got bitten. I finished the area (there were only maybe 5 more houses to do), then went down to the Salvation Army so they could count up the money and deposit it in the bank, and when I showed them what had happened, all they did was say "Oh no!" They didn't offer to get any antiseptic wipes to clean the wound, they didn't offer any bandages or even advise that I needed to go to the hospital. This also made me angry. I ended up going to the hospital myself and getting the wound treated and getting a tetanus injection too. This is the sixth year in a row that I've been going collecting for them, but if they can't even care about what happens to the people who volunteer to collect for them and at least offer some form of help for situations like that, then this will also be my last year of collecting. I'm sorry for ranting, but I've just had enough of people taking advantage of me and I'm not going to stand for it anymore.
