Travel Plans:

Yellowstone National Park for New Year's I got one of my credit cards paid off.  The bill was for 500 for work bening done on my 125 gallon aquarium that included 150 in plants, test kits, new lighting, minerals for the plants, and some new gravel.  There was also 230 for a plane ticket to Vegas in March.  Life is good.  I only owe another 319 and I will be debt free again for a couple of months.

125 Gallon Aquarium:

125 Gallon Aquarium is looking great. However I lost 3 fish.  1 Dennison Barb began splashing at the top of the tank.  The splashes where so big, there are water marks on the wall.  I have now Idea what happened.  The possibilities are, 1.  He had a heart attck.  2.  He went up for air and got stuck in a small gap at the top of the tank.  The 2 yellow rainbow fish died within 24 hours of each other after fighting.

The plan for the tank is to get the NO3 down below 10ppm.  Today I am doing a 30% water change to get the NO3 down below 20.  There's this thing in nature called a limiting system.  Environmentalists use this system to judge the water quality in lakes rivers, streams.  There are 2 basic types for bodies of water.  1.  Nitrogen that has a ratio of N:P of 15:1.  2.  Phosphorous that has a ratio of N:P at 10:1.  In the nitrogen limiting system, nitrogen sources need to be limited to increase water quality.  When the ratio of N:P is at 10:1 or lower, algae and agal growth is reduced.

I'm also working with plants in the fish tank.  I have about 75 right now.  I am dosing the plants with trace elements, iron and potassium.  Here the limiting element is iron.  Iron is a marco-nutrient like Nitrogen and phosphorous.  If there's too much iron, the plants have a hard time taking up the trace elements and macro elements and will show signs of deficiencies.

I am shooting for N=<10 P=<.5 K=20 I=.1 CO2=8. 

At these levels the plant should thrive better than they currently are.  You can see the plants growing daily.  A few of my bunched plants are nearly ready to be propigated.  And a few of the rooted plants already have flowered and produced offspring.

Phantom Ranch:  720 dollars is too much for me for 2 nights at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.  It includes the mule ride in and out, all the meals, room.  It's a trip of a lifetime.  You can get is cheap at 45 per night if you are willing to hike in and out.  Hiking In is fine for me, but getting Out would be the problem.  I was lucky to get out of Bryce Canyon 2 years ago.
