i was just a little kid when i started watching wrestling....i started watching world class championship wrestling out of texas (the von erichs) waaaay back in the 80's...my grandpa had always tried to get me into watching boxing with him...to no avail....but noooo...it had to be wrestling...i actually met kevin von erich and matt borne once...very nice people...to bad there was no digital cameras back then....i saw kerry von eric fight ric flair in a cage match right here in my own town and because i was just a little guy i never understood why they didnt mention that kerry von erich had won the title on the local sports news...ice man king parsons...percy pringle (before he was paul bearer) the dingo warrior....before he became the ultimate warrior....good times. but i missed what i should have been watching. i missed roberto duran, sugar ray leonard, marvin hagler, tommy hearns, alexis arguello, i could go on and on....eventually i got older and started notice what really happens to someones face when you pound on it for real for 3 minutes per round...i never saw hulk hogan with an eye swollen shut...or a broken nose with cotten shoved up his nostrils...or a broken jaw....but it was to late...by the time i finally started paying attention most of the greats had retired....and new legends like julio cesar chavez were coming into the limelight...unfortunatly my grandparents (i was raised by my grandparents thats not unfortunate, just that they were old fashioned) they didnt understand the new concept of pay tv so we never had HBO or showtime....fortunatly one of my neighbors did and i got to see julian jackson and julio c. chavez beat the hell out of several people. me and my grandpa watched alot of great boxing together before he passed....but i'll always regret that i never watched the really great ones with him when it was still free...i could have...i was just to young to understand
