"member since" date

it says I have been a member since Dec-1-1997 but I know I signed up before then. is there a way to find out the real signed up date? was there a problem and some data was lost?

For whatever reason Dec. 1, 1997 is the earliest reg date HSXToby Jan 28, 09:45
