Based on a real court case in 1987, 55 Steps stars Helen Bonham Carter as Eleanor Riese, a mental illness patient who brought a class action suit to establish a patient's right to refuse medication in a hospital. Hilary Swank co-stars as her lawyer Colette Hughes. The two form a friendship as the case went up to the Supreme Court of California. Bille August directed from a script by Mark Rosin.
