Set in China during the 3rd Century BC, The Emperor and the Assassin is an epic drama about love and betrayal.
The film follows emperor-to-be Ying Zheng, who enlists one of his concubines to act as a double agent and spy on a rival kingdom.
However, as the concubine pretends to help the rival king find an assassin to kill Ying, she begins to fall in love with the hired killer.
Because the plan is for Ying to kill the assassin, thus making him appear powerful, the concubine must decide between love and loyalty.
The Emperor and the Assassin stars acclaimed Chinese actress Li Gong, who has appeared in such films as Raise the Red Lantern and Chinese Box.
The film is is helmed by Kaige Chen, director of Farewell My Concubine.
