The low-budget, found footage horror genre remains popular as The Devil Inside [DVNSD] grossed an estimated $34.5 million to lead the weekend box office, The opening is the third highest ever for the month of January. The young audience however gave the film low marks which indicates a short stay at the box office.
After two weeks at the top, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol [MISS4] came in second at $20.5 million, advancing its total to $170.2 million.
Sherlock Holmes; A Game of Shadows [HOLM2] finished third with $14.0 million bringing its total to $157.4 million.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo [TGRLW] declined just 23% in its third weekend to $$11.4 million for fourth overall.
In its wide exansion to 809 theaters, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy [TTSS] placed ninth with $5.8 million.
